Job Title: Federal Work Study: Peer Mentor

Department: Mind-Body Medicine (MBM)

Saybrook University is seeking peer mentor to join the Department of Mind-Body Medicine in the College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences (CIMHS).  The person hired for the federal work study position will report directly to the advising office and work closely with the program’s specialization coordinator to support new and continuing students’ academic success.  

Primary Responsibilities                                                                                                

  • Communicating with prospective students
  • Organizing, managing and disseminating pertinent information for students
  • Scheduling calls with each new student a minimum of 2 times per academic year to offer ongoing mentoring support
  • Documenting notes and sharing relevant information with advising officer and specialization coordinator
  • Orienting new students to the Welcome Center, CIMHS Master Index of courses, and program plan
  • Guiding students to the appropriate resources in Canvas, Personal OneDrive, and Sharepoint
  • Contacting assigned new students ahead of the residential conference to make sure they are prepared to attend
  • Participating in the new student welcome videoconference
  • Assisting the advising officer and students with program planning requests
  • Coordinating peer mentoring videoconferences for new and continuing students throughout the academic year

Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in the PhD MBM program for a minimum of one year
  • Demonstrated history of academic excellence
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills
  • Completed training in coaching or counseling
  • Familiarity with the MBM curriculum and navigating Saybrook resources located in the CIMHS Mentoring and Writing Centers, Canvas, and Library

Expectations

  • Workload will vary each week depending on the needs of the advising team and students
  • Maximum of 15 hours per week

Compensation

  • Submit hours in Workday each week
  • $15.00 per hour
