Job Summary:

Job Function:

The Academic Success Coach Works with the faculty and staff of the Initial College Studies Division to facilitate and supports the curricular and co-curricular development and retention of OSU-Oklahoma City students. The Academic Success Coach provides academic support services and workshops and works with students individually and in small groups to develop and implement tools to help those students succeed academically. The Academic Success Coach also serves as the tutor coordinator and assists the faculty and staff of the Initial College Studies Division as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

    Provide high quality academic support services to students, including education regarding time management and organizational skills, study skills, and assistance with task analysis.Assist students with establishing schedules for completion of academic work, and balancing academic responsibilities/requirements with non-academic life. Meet with students to establish these schedules, with periodic follow-up to ensure utilization and progress toward goals.Assist in the establishment and maintenance of effective systems for monitoring and assessing student support and retention practices and outcomes.Consult with faculty across campus on best practices in student success and retention in their fields. Schedule periodic classroom visits to check in with students and follow-up those visits with phone calls, emails, and meetings with individual students. Work with the ICS Division Head and subject experts to develop, maintain, and deliver tutoring and/or student success workshops to be delivered in the SSOC or individual classrooms as requested.Generate tutor schedule prior to each term, maintain schedule throughout each semester, maintain updated contact list of tutors, and manage tutor absences. Assist ICS Division Head and ICS faculty with semestercourse schedules and payroll reports. Assist students with general questions, computer help,or in connecting with a tutor. Answer phone calls and check phone messages regularly.Orderoffice supplies, equipment, and materials as required for the SSOC. Organizeand maintain various files, including confidential files. Completesall mandatory training and participated in a minimum of two professionaldevelopment each year.Performother duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree or higher

Work Experience:


Minimum of two years working in an academic setting with faculty and staff
Minimum of two years teaching and/or training experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications Knowledge of educational tutoring, principles, practices, techniques and theory Knowledge of student success initiative development and implementation Knowledge of student resources, referrals, and services Skill in listening to issues, synthesizing information, and reaching sound conclusions Skill in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing to a diverse audience and adapting communication style to that audience Ability to network effectively in order to forge strong stakeholder relationships that maximize retention efforts Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and take appropriate action, resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other department staff, faculty, students, and the publicPassion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behaviorPreferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or human services, or a bachelor's degree with relevant experience assisting high school and college students with academic difficulties.
    Two years’ experience providing instruction and/or counseling to adult learners in a higher education setting

Working Conditions:

    Work is performed under limited supervision in a typicaloffice and/or classroom environment with a significant amount of publiccontact, in person, by telephone and via email.
    May require working occasional evenings and weekends.
