DESCRIPTION

Fair Data Informatics Lab at UCSD has developed SciCrunch - a data sharing and display platform, which was designed to help communities of researchers create their own portals to provide access to resources, databases and tools of relevance to their research areas. The Neuroscience Information Framework is a dynamic inventory of Web-based neuroscience resources, it is an initiative of the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research, NIF advances neuroscience research by enabling discovery and access to public research data and tools worldwide through an open source, networked environment.

Established in 2004, the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research brings the 16 NIH Institutes, Centers and Offices that support neuroscience research into a collaborative framework to coordinate their ongoing efforts and to plan new cross-cutting initiatives. Working together, representatives from the partner Institutes, Centers, and Offices identify pervasive challenges in neuroscience and any technological barriers to solving them. The NIF project is designed to serve the biomedical research community.

Another project, the NIDDK Information Network (dkNET) is another large pools of data relevant to the mission of The National Institute of Diabetes Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), it offers a search portal to find community-vetted materials, data and tools relevant to NIDDK, personalized search and display of results, and community news and social networking. Primary responsibility is to provide assistance with data management and curation. Specific responsibilities include 1) assist with day to day coordination of data ingestion; 2) obtaining data from various data resources - integrating and formatting large, complex datasets, and maintaining current databases; and 3) the management and curation of data being federated.

Will also be responsible for assisting with composing of correspondence and data reports, assistance with manuscripts and reports to funding agencies, assisting with assessment of data integrity by running validation checks, and cleaning data as needed. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required. Works on research data reporting assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • A minimum of two (2+) or more years of relevant experience.

  • Theoretical knowledge of a neuroscience and/or biological science.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of research function.

  • Strong working skills in analysis and consultation. Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures.

  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated experience with programming and scripting languages such as Python.

  • Proficiency using various computer operating systems, including PC, Mac, and Unix. Experience in library and internet research. Experience in research data collection, curation and quality control.

  • Proven experience with database applications and selection of data using query applications and query languages (e.g. SQL, NoSQL, SPARQL).

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to foster a good working relationship with a wide variety of people, using tact, diplomacy, confidentiality and flexibility.
