The Office of Faculty & Staff Labor Relations is seeking an Employee and Labor Relations Associate to provide assistance with administering provisions of collective bargaining agreements as well as related State and University policies and regulations at the University of Connecticut’s Storrs and Regional Campuses.

Working under the direction of the Director and/or Associate Director of Labor Relations, the incumbent will provide general advice and guidance to deans, directors, department chairs, administrators, faculty and supervisors regarding the interpretation and application of the various collective bargaining agreements and University policies that govern University employment; provide guidance on various personnel issues such as performance, discipline, dismissal, evaluations, salary increases, promotions, leaves of absences, etc.; support labor negotiations and manage research efforts on labor relations issues in higher education; conduct grievance conferences and employment related investigations and draft written findings; facilitate mediation processes as well as harmonious working relationships among parties in grievances and contract disputes; provide direct assistance with more complex investigations that have institutional impact; and assist in developing and delivering training programs to ensure effective implementation and administration of collective bargaining agreements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A law degree and at least two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in public sector personnel administration.
  2. A member of the Connecticut Bar at time of hire, or within twelve (12) months of hire.
  3. Considerable knowledge of collective bargaining including contract negotiation; contract administration and interpretation; relevant State and Federal laws; regulations and guidelines; knowledge of personnel administration, affirmative action and employment discrimination.
  4. Outstanding organizational skills, excellent oral and written communications skills.
  5. Must be able to work as a collaborative member of a team, share information and communicate openly requiring strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to developing creative, innovative solutions.
  6. Working experience with Microsoft Office applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Knowledge of statewide and/or University of Connecticut labor contracts, University and State insurance benefits, and related State personnel statutes, policies and procedures.
  2. Labor Relations experience preferably in a unionized institution of higher education, government agency or similar organization.
  3. Experience developing and/or presenting workshops and related training sessions.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time position located in Storrs. The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000 annually and includes a full benefits package.
