Postdoctoral Fellow

Chemical Engineering

Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPI

We seek to hire a postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary research team. The
ideal candidate will primarily contribute to the development of engineered yeast that produces novel viral proteins. The candidate's research will contribute to broader improvements in yeast synthetic biology. The position will provide ample opportunity for exploration into cross- disciplinary research initiatives, such as novel biomaterial development, algorithmic combinatorial optimization, and high-throughput analysis. Research funding for the postdoctoral position is secured for 24 months, with a likely extension for a total of 3-4 years.

An interest in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, and virology is essential. In addition to original research resulting in quality publications on the above topics, the postdoctoral scholar will also assist in managing the project, directing the research of undergraduate and graduate students, coordinating research across the team, and preparing project deliverables for the sponsor.

  • PhD in chemical engineering, biological engineering, or a closely related field
  • Broad experience in molecular cloning and synthetic biology (please describe in cover letter)
  • Experience with biomedical protein production (please describe in cover letter)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve project goals
  • Experience with engineering yeast is not essential, but desirable (please describe in cover letter)
