The education program manager works with the Vice Chief for Education for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, to direct educational efforts in the Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease. The program manager will lead individual training programs and management of the program schedules to ensure milestones are met for gastroenterology and hepatology training programs, medical student programs, and visiting resident programs. The manager also implements continuing medical education programming for the Division. The manager is the central contact and a resource in the areas of: compliance with ethical, legal, clinical, and business policies and procedures as determined by the program committees and adherence to sponsor guidelines; training & career planning; pay and leave issues; and human resources for potential and current trainees. The manager communicates with the NIH, NIDDK, various industry funders of advanced training programs, and the UNC Graduate Medical Education Office and the American Board of Internal Medicine to coordinate fellow training activities. Tracking trainee activity includes developing internal systems and updating and maintaining existing government databases for documenting trainee alumni employment positions, research activities, publications, grants received, other academic activities, IRB approvals, and ethics training compliance. The manager will conduct all aspects of program evaluation. The manager will aid in curricular development and scheduling. Responsibilities include oversight of the activities of an assistant education coordinator. Travel is required.

Educational Requirements

Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Communications, Education, basic sciences or related fields.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications & Experience required: Strong writing and organizational skills are essential, as is experience in both planning for and managing projects that require multi-level coordination. Knowledge of design and implementation of effective workflow processes and procedures. Knowledge of research grant making and writing. Knowledge of policies related to human subjects research. The incumbent must be available for evening and weekend hours for fellowship education related activities such as interview dates, as well as available for applicable travel such as travel to the Program Director and Coordinator conference (bi-annual) for Gastroenterology. Qualifications & Experience desired but not required: Knowledge of quality improvement. Knowledge or experience in project-related disciplines (e.g. inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy, hepatology, gastroenterology).
