The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for the position of Lecturer. Candidates are sought in all technical subdisciplines of mechanical science and engineering including design, thermosciences, solid and fluid mechanics, and dynamics and control.

The department has top-ranked graduate and undergraduate programs in mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, and theoretical and applied mechanics. Our faculty and students have access to premier interdisciplinary opportunities, supported by extensive state-of-the-art facilities housed on campus. Lecturers are specialized faculty who are primarily involved in classroom teaching, involving preparing course materials, giving lectures, interacting with student, supervising course staff, deciding on grades, and engaging in other activities associated with running a class offered by the MechSE department. Beyond the classroom they might also serve on committees, mentor students, supervise independent study projects or senior theses, take on administrative duties in support of the department’s teaching mission, and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctoral degree is required in Mechanical Engineering, Theoretical and Applied Mechanics or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching in one or more areas of mechanical engineering. As well as experience developing courses and curriculum, advising undergraduate students, teaching in an online environment, and the ability to foster a diverse and inclusive environment.

This is a full-time, non-tenure, 9-month appointment paid over 12 months, with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Proposed starting date will be August 16, 2019. Lecturer positions are continuing specialized faculty appointments renewable annually subject to performance and funding.
