QualificationsJob Summary: 
This description is a summary only and isdescribing the general level of work being performed, it is not intended to beall-inclusive. We reserve the right to add or delete duties andresponsibilities at the discretion of the supervisor and/or hiring authority.This position reports directly to Dr. MarcCornier, in the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, asprimary mentor for the T32 Postdoctoral Fellow/Trainee position. This positionofficially resides within the in the Section of Nutrition, Department ofPediatrics.
Examples of Work Performed:During this appointment, you will be involved inresearch on body composition and energy expenditure, the impact of exercise onneuronal response to food cues, understanding the mechanisms of variable weightloss response to exercise, and aspects of energy expenditure regulationincluding training to utilize new and novel research methodologies tounderstand how resistance training (RT) influences body composition, EI, energyexpenditure, and non-exercise physical activity in individuals withoverweight/obesity.
  • Major emphases will be placed on establishmentof T32-supported project(s); leading original research, analyses andmanuscripts; seeking supplemental (pilot) funding to support trainee-ledresearch; participating in career development activities; and transitioningtoward independent funding and an independent research career as proposed inyour T32 application. 
  • Trainees are expected to identify a ScholarshipOversight Committee, consisting of faculty not directly involved with yourresearch.  The committee will meet withyou tri-annually (more often if necessary) to review activities and progress todate. A written Individualized Development Plan (IDP) is required to be writtenjointly between the trainee and primary mentor, and is to be submitted to theDirector and Associate Director of the T32 (Drs. Krebs and Johnson,respectively) as well as the Postdoctoral Fellowship Office within 3 months ofthe fellowship start date. 
  • Trainees are expected to participate in activitiesassociated with the training grant including a weekly 1 h Journal Club (whichthe fellow will lead for 1 month of the year), and to present at least 1 timeper year in the bi-weekly Nutrition Seminar Series and the annual PediatricsNutrition Retreat.  There may be otherlimited requests to assist with nutrition training grant activities.
  • Trainees should plan and initiate meetings with T32 Associate Director, Dr. Susan Johnson, on bi-annual basis. 
  • Benchmarks for satisfactory progress during thefellowship will include publications, presentations, grant proposalsubmissions, and participation in training grant activities.  These benchmarks will be evaluated annuallythrough the Postdoctoral Office and should be conducted by Dr. Cornier, cc'ingDr. Johnson.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college oruniversity with a PhD/MD
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work independently within theresearch laboratory
  • Computer and software, equipment operation, andresearch technical skills

  • Must be willing and able to pass a nationalcriminal and sex-offender background check
