DESCRIPTION

Assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, incumbents perform operational level duties asdescribed in the Series Concept. The major emphasis at this level is ongoing direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching program,s participation in program planning and development of patient education information. Job standards are to be performed at the PRACTITIONER level.

The NP will perform history & physicals on patients referred to Non-invasive CV Services prior to procedures including transesophageal echocardiography. Perform and monitor diagnostic procedures including but not limited to exercise tolerance testing, echocardiographic stress testing both exercise and pharmaceutical, administer ultrasound enhancement agents including left heart contrast and agitated (bubble) saline.

Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the NPI or NPII level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.

  • Current NP Specialty Certification from one of the following Nursing Boards: AANP, ANCC, NCC, PNCB, AACN.

  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.

  • Demonstrated experience treating cardiology patients. Knowledge of pathology of cardiac patient population and expected outcomes.

  • Demonstrated experience taking detailed medical history, performing physical examinations, and interpreting findings.

  • Strong effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with attending physicians and patient's primary medical team.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills. Ability to pay conscientious attention to detail.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • One or more years of recent NP experience with cardiac patients.

  • Previous experience working in a diagnostic cardiac imaging lab.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • The hours of this position may vary between 8:00am-5:00pm on Mondays and 10:00am-6:00pm or 12:00pm-8:00pm Tuesday-Friday. No weekends or holidays.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Selected candidate may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by the Advanced Practice Council.
