Advertised Job Summary

This position is responsible for taking a lead technical role in the University’s Network Services team. The Network Services team is responsible for the management lifecycle of the network and networking based services. This includes, but is not limited to: network capacity planning, network design, software maintenance, network configuration management, monitoring, maintenance and configuration of related network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN appliances, Wireless Controllers and peripherals.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years’ experience in automated information or communication system design, installation, operation, repair or equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years’ experience working in an enterprise network environment (WAN, LAN, and Wireless) or Associate’s in a related field and 6 years working in an enterprise network environment or equivalent experience. Working Knowledge of Cisco, Juniper and FortiNet hardware, software and operating systems.
Cisco CCNA Certification desired, CCNP is a plus. Juniper Certifications JNCIA-Junos and JNCIS-ENT also a plus.


Must demonstrate the ability to install, configure and troubleshoot converged local and wide area networks. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to manage the routers and switches that form the network core, as well as edge applications that integrate voice, wireless and security into the network. Must have a demonstrable understanding of networking technologies in the service provider arena including IP routing, IP, QoS, BGP and MPLS. This position is on-call at the Tier 3 level and may be required to address problems encountered during non-business hours, as needed. Applicants may be asked to take a screening exam in networking technology.
