Salary:
Salary range: $3,897 - $6,486 per month (Anticipated hiring salary: $3,897-$4,470 per month)

Note: This is a full-time (40 hours per week), probationary, exempt position

Organizational Description:
The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology offers high quality undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs in the major areas of agricultural business; animal sciences and agricultural education; child, family and consumer sciences; food science and nutrition; industrial technology; and viticulture and enology. Faculty and students conduct applied research and public service in selected areas of agriculture, food sciences, industrial technology, and family sciences. Programs combine a science, technology and management focus with experiential learning. The College seeks to enhance the ability of students to be successful in their chosen careers and to make positive contributions to the quality of life in their communities.

The Jordan College maintains an enrollment of approximately 2,500 undergraduate and 100 graduate students from diverse backgrounds up and down the state of California, as well as from nations across the globe. On campus and throughout the community, our students engage in learning science, technology and management not just in the classroom, but by experience - on our 1,000-acre on-campus University Agricultural Laboratory. These are not the only activity opportunities; students enjoy active lifestyles on campus through social and athletic events and gain a sense of community by participating in more than 250 clubs and organizations, including more than 30 within the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology.

Overview:
The Program Specialist is an integral part of a small team dedicated to support, benefit and promote the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, its programs and activities through the Ag One/Jordan College Development office. The team manages and administers the Ag One Foundation, a California 501 (c) 3 and all facets of fund raising and constituent relations for the Jordan College. The Program Specialist is focused primarily on planning and executing a broad range of alumni and friends special events in collaboration with the Ag One board of directors and constituents from the Jordan College and Fresno State. This work will lead to identifying and engaging prospects to advance the philanthropic priorities of the Jordan College.

The Program Specialist reports to the Ag One Executive Director/Senior Director of Development and provides program administration and support to the Executive Director/Senior Director, Director of Development, Ag One board, volunteers and stakeholders of the Jordan College.

Position Summary:
  • Work with Ag One committees to plan, coordinate and execute special events ranging from 50 to 1,000+ guests, approx. 12 each year
    o Develop budgets, review and negotiate contracts with vendors, work with and coordinate volunteers and board members; execute all necessary follow up; wrap up and reconcile expenses
    o Work closely with Accounting Technician as needed
    o Use appreciable judgment related to any issues associated with these activities
  • Solicit sponsorships and gifts in support of these events, usually from $100 to $5,000 and sometimes in kind
    o Develop mini proposals as needed and requested by individuals, corporations and foundations
  • Lead team on post event discussion of events, help identify prospects
  • Work with internal and external resources, develop printed and electronic materials in support of the special events
    o Write, proof and approve materials
  • Work with Central Advancement, manage mailing lists (paper/electronic) for the events
  • Develop and oversee the yearly Ag One membership solicitation and marketing
    o Direct and assist student assistant with monthly membership renewal process
    o Create and organize membership materials for events
    o Work with volunteer board members to recruit new members as well as retain existing members
  • Develop monthly Ag One eNews
    o Work with Jordan College communications specialist to help identify timely college content,
    o Work with university communications for distribution
  • Direct and oversee Ag One website content and updates including on-line payment platform

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to a university college or similiar department, to develop conclusions and make recommendations
  • Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program and/or administrative specialty
  • Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques
  • Skill in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
    Ability to:
  • Take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved
  • Anticipate problems and address them proactively
  • Train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form
  • Work effectively in a highly consultative and collaborative environment
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and funding representatives from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds

    Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs

    Specialized Skills:
  • Must be willing and able to travel and attend various functions, meetings, and conferences as required

    Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working in the agricultural industry
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization or membership based organization, ideally agricultural
  • Experience in fund raising, marketing, public relations or membership or customer based organization
  • Demonstrated ability to be a highly energetic, self-starting, creative and entrepreneurial professional
