Programmer/Software Developer, Department of Computer Science - Georgetown College

The Department of Computer Science at Georgetown University, in the heart of Washington, DC, is home to higher education and advanced research on the cutting edge of computing and technology.

Faculty in the Department of Computer Science are seeking an experienced Programmer who will assist with developing the next generation of privacy-enhancing technologies. The Programmer will be responsible for the implementation of software to enable more private forms of communication, and will be an integral member in a multi-institutional and multidisciplinary team to develop such technologies.

The position reports to the Principal Investigator with responsibility for this project, and will work closely and collaboratively with the co-Principal Investigators and graduate students (Ph.D. and MS) working on the project. The Programmer will also work closely with programmers hired at the collaborating institutions (namely, the Tor Project and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory) to co-develop the software.

The Programmer's duties also include but are not limited to:
  • Software Development - software development, writing test cases and coding review.
  • Evaluations - system evaluation, including performance evaluation and security audit and analysis.
  • Documentation - coding documentation and assisting in preparing technical reports.

Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree (BS, BA) in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent
  • Extensive experience writing and evaluating code in either C, Go, or Python

Preferred qualifications
  • Understanding of the Tor Pluggable Transport ecosystem and the censorship circumvention research space
  • Familiarity with developing and scaling distributed systems
  • Previous contributions to other open source projects
