Employer
Arkansas State University
Location
A-State Campus Querétaro

Job Details

Arkansas State University has recently opened a campus in Querétaro, México (A-State Campus Querétaro, or A-State CQ), and is looking to recruit full-time Public Speaking faculty starting August 2019. Faculty with experience teaching in community college and/ or abroad are desired.

The Position
We are seeking a dynamic, qualified colleague who uses modern methods and pedagogies in the classroom. Candidates with a Master’s degree in Communications, with at least 18 graduate credits in the areas of interest would be considered at the instructor level. Additional preference will be given to candidates with educational and teaching experience in the United States. Experience teaching theatre or forensics is also of interest. The standard teaching load will be five courses per semester. Reassigned time equal to one course may be negotiated for relevant research, administrative duties or extraordinary student engagement. The language of instruction is English.

In addition to teaching, other job responsibilities include collaborating with administration, staff, other faculty, students, and stakeholders to foster a climate of academic excellence, participating in the management of the campus through shared governance, and helping recruit students and faculty to the campus.

All full-time faculty appointments are 12 months (non-tenure track) with the length of the contract negotiable up to an initial term of 3 years. The term may be extended at any time by agreement. Depending on enrollment patterns, faculty may be asked to teach during the summer. In lieu of teaching during the summer, faculty are expected to engage in relevant scholarly activity. The academic calendar will be very similar to most institutions in the United States, approximately August 15 – May 15 annually, with the summer term running from last week of May to end of June.

Faculty must meet all relevant qualifications for similar employment at Arkansas State University. However, faculty will NOT become employees of Arkansas State University – instead, they will be employed by a private sector foundation registered in Mexico for this purpose. All non-Mexican national faculty members must qualify for employment as a foreign worker in Mexico, with this process being managed by A-State Querétaro at no cost to the faculty member.

Compensation is in Mexican pesos, and it will be guided by prevailing Mexican rates for university faculty with the expectation that A-State CQ intends to be a preferred employer among institutions of higher education in Mexico

The Campus
A-State CQ is the first “American Style” comprehensive residential campus in Mexico and began teaching students in the fall of 2017. Through a multi-national public-private partnership, Arkansas State University, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, is responsible for all academic and curricular matters while a private foundation registered in Mexico constructs and maintains the campus, ensure its official status and serve as the operating partner.

Located in the highlands of central Mexico, two hours north of Mexico City, Santiago de Querétaro is a UNESCO World Heritage city and one of the fastest growing and safest in Mexico. Home to more than 1,300 multi-national corporations, international interest in Querétaro has increased because of its economic growth, high quality of life, social progress and its year-round temperate climate.

Clearly, this opportunity is not for everyone – but for a few pioneering, inspirational teachers, dedicated to the success of students in this unique setting, it could be an unparalleled experience.

Arkansas State is home to eight undergraduate colleges: Agriculture, Engineering and Computer Science; Education and Behavioral Science; Neil Griffin College of Business; Liberal Arts and Communication; Nursing and Health Professions; Sciences and Mathematics; and University College. While it does not award degrees, the Honors College is a component of the university’s academic structure. The Jonesboro campus is led by the chancellor, with a Chancellor’s Cabinet which includes the senior executive vice chancellor and provost in Academic Affairs and Research, senior vice chancellor for Finance and Administration, vice chancellors for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations; Intercollegiate Athletics; Student Affairs and Dean of Students; University Advancement; and Chief Communications Officer.
