Student ProfileAustin Community College District (ACC) is an Hispanic-Serving Institution. ACC currently enrolls approximately 41,500 credit students in each Fall and Spring semester, over half of whom are non-white. In Fall 2017, ACC's students were 45% White, 36% Latinx, 8% African-American, 5% Asian, <1% Pacific Islander, <1% Native-American, and 4% multiracial. Responsible to prepare and deliver Geographic Information Systems coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to success equity, respect for diversity, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.Principal Responsibilities and DutiesPrepare and teach courses in the field of Geographic Information Systems to a diverse student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.Instructs workforce and transfer students in geospatial concepts and related Geographic Information Systems (GIS) courses. Guides students to produce portfolio-worthy work.Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice president, vice president, executive vice president.
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom. Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)
- Knowledge of the following software is essential: ArcGIS Desktop 10.x and ArcGIS Pro 2.x software and extensions.
Principal Professional StandardsAppropriate use of the college's learning management system.Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.

Work Experience - Required
Three years related work experience in the GIS industry.Other RequirementsLicenses, Certifications, etc. Preferred Work Experience:
Work experience teaching at a university or community college.QualificationsAbility to maintain an established schedule which may include evenings and weekends and multiple campus locations.Effective planning, organization, communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality of work and student-related information.Understanding of the principles and practices associated with Servant-Leadership.Ability to handle sensitive issues relating to a diverse student body.Ability to effectively assist and assess student learning.Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds.Proficiency using computer applications, classroom or other current learning technologies for effective teaching.Effective teaching techniques adaptable to a variety of learning styles with an understanding of the comprehensive philosophy of community colleges.Knowledge of subject matter and related and/or relevant topics and issues in the discipline.
