Occ Summary Augment a physician's ability to provide medical servicesto patients;collect and document data,conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedulelaboratory studies andprofessional consultations and provide direct patient care services. Work PerformedParticipate inpatient.and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physicianin diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessarytreatment and services forquality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review bythe physician.Take patienthistories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in thepatient's record; write progressnotes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positiveandnegative findings;obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care,and assumeresponsibility for developingtherapeutic relationships with patients. Order and schedule laboratorystudies and diagnosticprocedures;explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipatedeffects of scheduled diagnosticand therapeutic procedures to the Carry out therapeutic procedures suchas castapplication and removal, wound suturing and dressingchanges; monitorprogress of patients,report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of eachpatient's progress,consulting with supervising physician when patient's progress does notmeet anticipated and/orpredetermined criteria.Participate in basic science andclinical research projects conducted by supervising physician; preparestatistical reports andanalyses setting forth progress, adverse trends Review the workoflower rated employees; train new personnel.teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures which areunique to specific clinicalsetting. Work requires a MD, DO, and completion of advanced graduate medicaleducation in Internal Medicine with board eligibility or boardcertification in internal medicine.


Training experiences as mandated by the ABIM for board eligibility arerequired, clinical and teaching experience in an inpatient healthcareenvironment including experience in both large academic medical centerand community hospital environments is preferred.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Physician will maintain a current unrestricted license to practicemedicine in the State of North Carolina, federal and state prescriptiveauthority, and will obtain and maintain board certification by theAmerican Board of Internal Medicine in accordance with the Medical StaffBylaws of the DUHS Hospitals.
