Description of Department: We are a collegial department of 19 full-time faculty, offering a BA in Mathematics and BS in Applied Mathematics, plus a joint program BS in Applied Mathematical Economics, minors in Applied Statistics and in Mathematics, and concentrations for future childhood and adolescent teachers. About 18 majors graduate each year, in addition to graduates in adolescent mathematics education. We are dedicated to engaging teaching and to high standards in all our courses. Faculty are expected to work closely with students and to stay active in the profession.

Description of Responsibilities: The Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) of Mathematics will teach a broad range of undergraduate mathematics courses, including developmental mathematics, calculus, introductory applied statistics, and upper division courses in mathematics. The VAP will hold office hours, assist individual students outside class, advise students, and work with students on projects. Active participation in the life of the department and the college is expected, as is a program of active contributions in the profession; these contributions may include research and publications, grant work, presentations, and/or work in professional organizations. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, with reductions for teaching large sections.
In addition, the Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, a commitment to undergraduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
- Master's degree in the mathematical sciences
- Commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds
- PhD in Mathematics
- Teaching experience at the college-level (possibly as a graduate teaching assistant)
- Training and experience teaching introductory applied statistics
