Rock Eagle 4-H Center, the largest of the five centers operated by the University of Georgia, is located in Eatonton, Georgia, adjacent to the Oconee National Forest. With nearly 1,500 acres of forested land, a 110-acre lake, and state-of-the-art cabins and conference facilities, Rock Eagle provides a unique and natural setting. Thousands of young people annually participate in the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education and Summer Camp Programs. 4-H’ers from around the state attend competitive events, leadership conferences and rallies at Rock Eagle and civic, religious and business groups utilize the center for conferences and meetings.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

This is an administrative and managerial position directing a comprehensive building maintenance program and the operation of Rock Eagle 4-H Center’s Maintenance Department. The individual in this position works under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance and the Rock Eagle 4-H Center Director. The Facilities Manager of the Rock Eagle Maintenance Department is responsible for the hiring, training, and supervision of employees in the areas of maintenance, construction, landscape and ground maintenance and security. This position will direct the maintenance and repair requirements for the planning, implementation, and supervision of a building maintenance program encompassing structural, mechanical, electrical maintenance, plumbing maintenance, and repair of buildings. This individual must have an understanding of construction and renovation of buildings, roads, parking areas and sidewalks. This position is responsible for the scheduling and oversight of employees who are responsible for maintaining and operating a municipal water system, maintaining and operating a sewage disposal system with a discharge permit, supervising individuals who are Certified Pool Operators and able to manage high tech HVAC systems and audio visual systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Extensive knowledge of plumbing, electrical, structural, mechanical, carpentry and masonry skills, and landscaping/grounds knowledge. Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and/or construction of buildings, building facilities and systems, and related structures.
Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and the appropriate safety standards and practices applicable to building construction and repair.
Training within six months of employment; State of Georgia Water/Wastewater Board – Water Operator Class 4, Georgia Tank & Environmental Contractors’ Association – Underground Storage Tank – Class A/B Operator, National Swimming Pool Foundation – Certified Pool/Spa Operator
Knowledge and experience with 4-H program.
Knowledge of the principles of organization and management.
Ability to determine cost estimates for renovation and construction projects.
Ability to supervise the work of others.

Hires, trains, and supervises the employees in the Rock Eagle 4-H Center Maintenance Department to include landscaping crew and security personnel

Coordinates the scheduling of maintenance, renovations, and grounds maintenance of the Rock Eagle facilities with the Center Director and the Event Coordinator who schedule facility use; Coordinates and directs maintenance projects with the Food Operations Manager/Manager of Housekeeping/Environmental Education Coordinator as needed to support the Center’s operations; responsible for the maintenance of the grounds, trails and road right of ways; Maintains appropriate safety standards and practices

Ensures that all regulatory requirements for the management of a municipal water system are up to date and all testing of water is done on a timely basis; Ensures that the sewage disposal system requirements and reporting are done on a timely basis; Directs the operations of swimming pools at Rock Eagle 4-H Center and ensures that Certified Pool Operators are trained and available to manage the operations of pools
