It is dedicated to enabling research by providing access to centrally managed High Performance Computing (HPC), storage, and visualization resources. These resources include hardware, software, high-level scientific and technical user support, and the education and training required to help researchers make full use of modern HPC technology and local and national supercomputing resources. The Office of Research and National Laboratories oversees the conduct of sponsored research, research program development, multi-institutional research institutes, national laboratory board, and contract management functions. RNL supports the development and coordination of research-related communications and educational programs at The University of Chicago. RNL oversees the management of two Department of Energy contracts for Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. When combined with the Lab R&D budgets, the office oversees approximately $1.4 billion in sponsored research. Performs work with moderate guidance and utilizes knowledge of University and business drivers.1) Seeks new avenues for funding and grant opportunities and ensures that notices of relevant opportunities are brought to faculty attention. Works with sponsors to draft proposal budgets in accordance with University needs, with a moderate level of guidance and direction., 2) Reviews all applications against University guidelines, in addition to drafting progress reports, non-competing applications, amendments, and budgeting. Responsible for all data entry and preparation of grant reports and trend analysis., 3) Handles straightforward post-award activities including account creations, regulatory and compliance monitoring, salary allocations, effort reporting, grant projections, cost allocations, cost center charges, equipment inventory, invoice preparation, grant closing process, and account closing., 4) Prepares summaries of grants and effort allocations for Principal Investigators, meets with them and responds to their questions. Coordinates with other departments/units/divisions regarding multi investigator grants. Serves as department contact for annual audits and agency site visits., 5) Performs other related work as needed.
1) The Research Computing Center (RCC) is seeking a motivated and experienced Writer. This role first and foremost requires excellent writing and communication skills in order to write and edit grants and other complex documents. The Writer must also leverage skills in goal-oriented planning and organizational logistics to work effectively with diverse teams and lead project management for all RCC grants. This position requires someone who is dedicated to and excited about advancing the research enterprise of the University of Chicago.
2) Write and edit grant proposals to funding agencies. Ensure compliance of university and funding agency guidelines.
3) Support proposal development and submission for RCC grant proposals.
4) Work with RCC staff and faculty to identify funding opportunities and develop strong relationships with new and existing funders.
5) Execute project management techniques for complex, multi-investigator grants and projects. Provide superior customer service to faculty who work with the RCC.
6) Oversee administrative grants operations for the office, including both pre-award and post-award management. Develop and/or follow efficient workflow processes, tracking and reporting processes for RCC projects and activities.
7) Write and/or edit a variety of complex documents, including but not limited to reports to the deans, committee materials, internal memos, and the RCC annual report.
8) Coordinate RCC communications to faculty, announcements and mass mailings.
9) Coordinate the creation of targeted marketing assets, including social media.
10) Additional duties as assigned.
