Position Summary Information

Job Description

DEFINITION
Under direction, leads, coordinates and performs advanced technical administrative work in support of specialized division operations; organizes, leads and performs highly complex and specialized duties and services related to program research, administration, communications, finance/budgeting, contract management, resource development, payroll, scheduling, purchasing, personnel, curriculum and/or other areas; researches, gathers, processes and maintains highly complex information; may provide secretarial support to a manager or program administrator as an ancillary duty; and performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the second and advanced technical level class of the Administrative Support Series within the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD). Incumbents typically have specialized program or project responsibilities that require advanced and highly complex technical knowledge of the assigned subject area in order to make decisions and complete assignments. Positions in this class may be assigned to a wide variety of operational and administrative work units with specialized program, project and administrative requirements. If incumbents serve in a secretarial capacity, that responsibility is not usually preponderant to the position.

This class may be distinguished from the lower-level class of Administrative Technician because Administrative Specialists perform advanced and highly complex work assignments and may serve as formal lead workers. In contrast, an Administrative Technician independently performs technical administrative work that is moderately complex, and/or may assist higher-level administrative staff with advanced and highly complex assignments.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Incumbents in this class typically work under the direction of a Dean or other senior-level manager, though some positions may provide specialized technical support for a program or operational manager. Incumbents receive occasional supervision while working toward a definite objective that requires use of a wide range of procedures. Incumbents plan and/or determine specific procedures or equipment required to meet assigned objectives and solve non-routine problems, referring only unusual matters to a supervisor.

An incumbent in this class does not directly supervise other full-time employees, but may serve as a lead worker by assigning, directing and/or monitoring the work of subordinate full time employees on a regular basis.

Organization

On behalf of everyone at the Yosemite Community College District Office, Modesto Junior College and Columbia College, we welcome you to our District. All of our employees throughout the District are dedicated to excellence in serving our students. Even with all the fiscal issues that we are facing within the State of California, our staff has been working miracles with continuously reduced budgets. We continue to serve our students well, and provide them with great opportunities and a quality education. As the Chancellor, I am very proud of their efforts and dedication.

One of my greatest challenges is to ensure the educational quality and fiscal stability of our institutions. One way this is accomplished is through long-range planning. There are many exciting things on the horizon for the Colleges of the YCCD - especially with all the construction and completion of our Measure E building projects. We are very grateful to the community for your support of these efforts. Students will benefit for years to come; we extend to you heartfelt thanks.

The Mission of the Yosemite Community College District is: "The YCCD is committed to responding to the needs of our diverse community through excellence in teaching, learning and support programs contributing to social, cultural and economic development and wellness." We take this mission statement seriously; it is the one key element that we base all our efforts on - it is our charge to provide excellent, meaningful service to the community.

As educators, we always focus on offering life-changing opportunities for our students; that is our business. One of the most enjoyable experiences in my 30 year higher education career has been witnessing lives changing right before my eyes as students graduate or achieve their educational goals. When they go on to create successful lives for themselves, their families and their communities I know we have done our job! This is the reward of the work that we collectively do at the Yosemite Community College District. I most cordially invite you to become more involved in our dynamic educational community called the YCCD.

Most sincerely,

Joan E. Smith, Ed.D.
