Job Details

Princeton University

The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a senior scholar who works at the intersections of Biological and Sociocultural Anthropology, to begin September 1, 2019. To receive full consideration application materials should be received by October 30, 2018. We seek theoretically engaged scholars whose research and teaching are firmly at the intersections of Biological and Sociocultural Anthropology. Our preference is for a scholar who uses his or her research to address sociocultural phenomenon such as sex, gender, race, childhood and youth, language, disease, disability, reproduction, aging, health disparities, agriculture, foodways, and/or the human implications of built and natural environments. Our Department does not have a graduate biological anthropology program, so the teaching focus for this position would be on our undergraduate program. The position does, however, entail a small amount of graduate teaching and graduate advising for students who work in areas such as medical anthropology, environmental studies, science and technology studies, multispecies ethnography, food studies, race and gender, among others. Applicants should send a cover letter summarizing their teaching and research experience as well as their theoretical interests and contributions should be submitted to https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/7761. Application dossiers should also include: a full cv, names and contact information for four referees, a writing sample (e.g. published or recently submitted article or book chapter), a one-page statement describing research and writing goals for the next three to five years, teaching evaluations, syllabi for two courses (an introductory one in Biological Anthropology and an advanced thematic one at the intersection of Biological Anthropology and Sociocultural Anthropology), and a one to two-page statement of teaching philosophy as it relates to our job description and your current research and teaching. This position is subject to the University's background check policy.
