The Department of Life Sciences invites applications for a non-tenure track Professional Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences & Clinical Laboratory Science to begin fall 2019. We seek a faculty member who will contribute to the undergraduate programs in both biomedical science and clinical laboratory science. This position does provide opportunities to teach other courses in their area of expertise. The primary responsibility of the position is to teach upper division undergraduate courses in biomedical sciences and clinical laboratory science, particularly with emphasis on Immunohematology and Clinical Microbiology. The typical teaching assignment for professional assistant faculty in the Department of Life Sciences is 5:5 courses per academic year.

The Department of Life Sciences has 30 tenured or tenure-track faculty, 5 professional assistant faculty and over 1,200 science majors. It offers B.S. degrees in Biology, Biomedical Science, and Clinical Laboratory Science, M.S. degrees in Biology, Marine Biology, and Fisheries & Mariculture, and a Ph.D. in Marine Biology. The selected faculty will be housed in a new state-of-the-art three-story building, Tidal Hall, which will support 9 new instructional labs and 34 research labs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in the field of Life Sciences with current (or eligible for) MLS/MT (ASCP) certification, although other clinical laboratory credentials may be considered.
  • Relevant experience working in a hospital-based clinical laboratory.
  • Teaching courses in the field of clinical laboratory science.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, and demonstrate the ability to communicate ideas clearly.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in teaching toxicology, immunology, and/or cell biology would be beneficial to the applicant.
