DESCRIPTION

The Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI), an organized research unit at UCSD, was established to provide education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area that encompasses four hospital systems, two universities and four biomedical research organizations. The mission of the CTRI is to create an environment that advances health care through interactions between basic scientists, clinical investigators, community physicians, and patients.

The Clinical Research Business Intelligence Analyst provides reliable high level qualitative and quantitative data and trend analysis that supports the strategic planning and operational effectiveness across CTRI units and clinical research affiliate offices. The Analyst provides consultative services to leadership through data extractions and mining to understand data origins and needed business intelligence tools. Develops and produces high level analytical reports and generates and maintains reports illustrating overall and unit specific results.

The Analyst serves as the system administrator for finance-capture systems, following data from its creation point through to extraction and billing. The incumbent automates/simplifies data flows to perform complex analysis, dashboard creation, and executive support.

The Clinical Research Business Intelligence Analyst will learn the entire clinical research process and connect key pieces in the information lifecycle to broadly enhance the UCSD portfolio and outcomes. As we continue to scale up and prepare for the next set of challenges, this individual will play a crucial role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Three or more years of relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of R, Python, relational databases, SQL, APIs, Excel/Power Query, Cognos, Tableau, and/or related tools and programming languages.

  • Thorough knowledge of business intelligence functions, analytics, industry standards and best practices.

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant internal databases, BI applications and tools. Ability to produce high-quality reports and documentation.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage complex information, assess problems, and develop and effective solutions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with a broad range of professional and technical staff.

  • Proven ability to serve as a technical resource providing advice and counsel on business intelligence issues.
