East Carolina University (ECU), the third largest university in the state (~30,000 students) and constituent of the UNC system, is located in Greenville, North Carolina (population ~100,000), approximately 1½ hours from the capital city of Raleigh. Greenville is the cultural, educational, medical, and economic center of eastern North Carolina and enjoys a temperate climate. Greenville is also within driving distance to the beautiful North Carolina beaches (2 hours) and Appalachian Mountains (4 hours). ECU is part of a vibrant health care community including Vidant Medical Center, which houses the regional trauma and rehabilitation centers serving 29 counties. The ECU College of Allied Health Sciences has strong working relationships with the ECU College of Health and Human Performance, College of Engineering and Technology, Brody School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, and East Carolina Diabetes and Obesity Institute. ECU is home to both Army and Air Force ROTC programs and is in proximity to Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine, and Navy bases. The Department of Physical Therapy is in close proximity to the College of Nursing, Brody School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, and Vidant Medical Center.

Job Duties

This is a fixed-term, clinical faculty position at the title of Clinical Instructor or higher dependent upon qualification and credentials. The candidate will be expected to deliver content and teach clinical and laboratory skills in the musculoskeletal sequence of courses for the entry-level doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program. Additional teaching responsibilities in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise, commensurate with departmental needs, may also be expected. The candidate will also provide PT services in the department’s growing outpatient PT clinic providing evidence-based clinical care using cutting edge technology and advanced treatment regimens. The position will also involve mentoring DPT students in capstone research projects, reasonable department, college, university, and professional service obligations, and a supervisory role in our Student Run Clinic, which provides no-cost PT services to underserved individuals.

Minimum Education/Experience

Earned DPT or tDPT degree, eligible for physical therapy licensure in North Carolina, 5 years clinical experience and effective written, oral, and interpersonal skills.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

None

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Specialist certification, history of effective academic teaching and knowledge of current trends in the field of physical therapy.

Applicants with clinical expertise in treatment of patients with varied musculoskeletal impairments are especially invited to apply.
