Library Technician – 2 Positions

The following positions requires familiarity with the community college philosophy and the ability to work within a culturally diverse college population.

TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Library Technician – 2 Positions

DIVISION: Center for Learning Resources, Library, Media, and Instructional Technology

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Dean of the Center, the Library Technician performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks to support the acquisition and inclusion of materials in the library collection. Additional responsibilities include the following:

  • Receive and perform pre-order research including OCLC bibliographic data downloads, and fill purchase request for library materials via web-based acquisition aggregators, including GOBI and publisher/distributor websites.
  • Create requisitions in Oracle/PeopleSoft, update the budget, inventory documentation, and monitor open orders.
  • Receive orders, sort, distribute, and process print and non-print materials in the Alma Library Management System.
  • All other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A High School Diploma or equivalent and six years of clerical experience, three years of which must have been performing clerical functions to assist Librarians or higher-level staff in a library, are required. Satisfactory completion of 30 credits may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience for up to two years, including college credits towards an Associate’s degree. Candidates must possess the specialized experience. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science may be substituted for the required experience. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. The successful candidate must also have the ability to negotiate and problem solve as well as the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Strong technical skills, as it relates to working with computers and a variety of software and database programs, required. They must be a self-starter and customer service oriented with excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. They must also have the ability to analyze collected data and write clear and concise reports. *This is a Civil Service position. The final candidate will be required to take and pass the Civil Service Exam.*

POSITION EFFECTIVE:Recruitment will remain open until the position is filled.

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $48,268 plus competitive benefits.
