The Director of MDC WORKS: Next Generation Career Center (“MDC WORKS”) provides leadership and strategic vision for the development of MDC WORKS by developing a sustainable business plan, relevant programming, communications and industry engagement strategy. The position leads the development and implementation of MDC WORKS strategic plan and oversees the day to day operations of Career & Technical Education Advisement, Internships, Apprenticeships and Alumni Career Services. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

  • Directs new initiatives and ensures an integrated approach to career and technical education advancement activities, through MDC WORKS career centers branding, promotion and communication to external constituents, faculty, staff andstudents
  • Develops and maintains professional contacts and affiliations with businesses, economic entities and related external resources to createopportunities for career development.
  • Identifies and secures strategic industry partnerships, venues, speakers and programthemes
  • Develops communication plan to maintain a dynamic image of MDC WORKS career centers to include electronic communications, internal communications and community outreachfunctions
  • Reviews budgetary recommendations and monitors, verifies and reconciles expenditure of budgeted funds for MDC WORKS
  • Engages with senior leadership and campuses College-wide to expand MDC WORKS offerings, promote events and provide optimal program exposure
  • Develops master plan for delivery of workshops, training, guest speakers and activities at MDC WORKS
  • Identifies ways to build brand identity of MDC WORKS through innovative use of public media
  • Develops media strategies, including implementation and use of LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube as examples
  • Oversees the creation of MDC WORKS website
  • Directs and coordinates public affairs plans, programs and schedules for public relations, external media services and specials events for MDC WORKS
  • Keeps key stakeholders informed of trends and topics ofinterest
  • Hires and supervises staff and volunteers for MDC WORKS
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Master’s degree in a related field of study such as Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or Project Management and four (4) years of related experience; or a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field of study and eight (8) years of related experience which may include brand management, strategy development, large- scale project management and public relations
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, groups of managers, clients, customers, and the generalpublic
  • Knowledge of career center software programs focused on internships, apprenticeships, and job placement
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility such as Adobe CS suite publishing software and Microsoft OfficeSuite
  • Possess excellent large-scale event management skills, strong project management skills and ability to meetdeadlines
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and proceduremanuals
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral andwritten)
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise, including social media, website development and other areas that prove relevant to the College’s mission and the Office of Workforce Education and Partnershipsinitiatives
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diversecommunity
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizationexists
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret economicdata
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty andstaff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, and outreach locations
