The Dean of Continuing Education and Professional Development provides administrative leadership to the College-wide School of Continuing Education and Professional Development and has a strong external focus, establishing primary connections with external entities. The Dean is responsible for creating partnerships among non-credit workforce training, adult basic education and the College’s credit programs. The position provides strong leadership for the School through: strategic planning, program development, review and revision, resource development, innovation and faculty and staff development. In addition, the Dean serves as the key liaison and College spokesperson for the School of Continuing Education and Professional Development and has overall responsibility for deciding which programs are offered and allocation of respective budgets for building and maintaining high quality self-supporting and grant-funded instructional programs. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

•Provides leadership for instructional program delivering non-credit classes to all parts of the Miami-Dade County community, with an emphasis on workforce training
•Collaborates with the Deans of the Academic Schools and Dean of General Education in creating pathways from non-credit programs in the areas of workforce training, adult basic education, GED and ESOL to the College’s credit programs
•Maintains the fiscal integrity of School operations including self-support and grant-funded budgets totaling approximately $18 million
•Leads the strategic advancement of the units internal and external reporting structures, including annual effectiveness reports, program action plans, grant reports and strategic enrollment management plans, in consultation with the members of the College’s executive leadership team to facilitate alignment with college-wide priorities
•Pursues and establishes new relationships with business and industry, educational institutions, governmental agencies and potential donors that result in resource support for workforce development programs that meet the needs of current and emerging employers
•Provides leadership and supervises Chairpersons and Program Directors while building and fostering a team approach to School operations
•Communicates information effectively and shares philosophy across a staff of several hundred employees College-wide
•Identifies and recognizes trends in community and workforce education that are in line with community and workforce needs and are directly tied to the School’s strategic enrollment management plan
•Provides leadership to ensure that programs are of high quality and responsive to rapidly changing community needs
•Actively seeks funding support including grants and contracts to further the mission of the School
•Oversees advertising and marketing of instructional programs
•Maintains an active presence in business and professional communities to promote workforce training
•Serves as MDC’s primary liaison and steers the School Advisory Committee by presenting business research data and making recommendations to recruit community business member participants; thus, ensuring that programs respond to community needs
•Serves as a College leader and primary resource for national, state and local information in matters of non-credit instruction
•Resolves personnel issues and actively promotes opportunities for growth and development of employees
•Performs other duties as assigned

•Doctorate degree in an appropriate field and six (6) years of demonstrated progressive administrative and management experience to include large complex budgets and federal grants in an instructional environment; or Master’s degree in an appropriate field and seven (7) years of demonstrated progressive administrative and management experience to include large complex budgets and federal grants in an instructional environment
•All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
•Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives and policies and procedures
•Working knowledge of managing large and complex budgets in an instructional environment
•Knowledge of budget preparation and managing federal grants
•Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both oral and written)
•Ability to train, supervise, and manage staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling
•Ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups
•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
•Ability to manage time and organize multiple tasks
•Ability to represent the College at the local, state and national level in matters of non-credit and workforce programs
•Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, staff, and faculty
