Requirements

Manager of Communications
The Manager of Communications will support Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies (SCS) to engage students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners through timely and relevant communication. This role, in concert with the Senior Director of Communications & External Relations, will support the Communications team within the Dean's Office to achieve excellence in six strategic areas:
  • Executive Communication
  • External Relations
  • Emergency & Operational Communication
  • Internal Communication
  • Media Relations
  • Design & Visual Identity

This role will craft communications to the Georgetown University community relating to academic and student life issues, news and events, staff initiatives, strategic planning initiatives, and special University projects managed by the Dean's Office, including community engagement and cross-campus partnerships, alumni engagement, new student and faculty orientations, Commencement and Tropaia ceremonies, and digital and print projects. The Manager of Communications will work with the SCS Marketing Team to ensure that content reflected on the SCS website is current and appropriate for all SCS students. The Manager of Communications will also serve on the SCS Emergency Operations Team and will master the process for issuing emergency notifications to the SCS community.
The Manager of Communications will devise a public and media relations strategy for SCS, including writing and distributing press releases and advisories, coordinating media interviews and tracking appearances and mentions, and will serve as a liaison with the Main Campus Office of Strategic Communications. This individual will proactively represent SCS's interests to external media and work to maximize exposure of faculty and other thought leaders within the School.
Finally, the Manager of Communications will create and execute a communications calendar, ensuring that recurring communications are issued to the SCS community in a timely manner.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2-4 years of communications experience
  • Demonstrated media relations experience
  • Advanced and demonstrable skills in writing, proofreading, and editing
  • Experience managing information dissemination
  • Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office products
  • Experience working with a CRM and a web publisher
  • Prior experience with HTML
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills, tact, and the ability to work in complex organizations is a must
  • Experience adhering to tight timelines and with handling sensitive information
