The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University’s teaching, research/administrative space and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.

Essential Job Duties

The Lab Control Technician will commission, program, design, modify, repair and perform preventive maintenance as directed on campus laboratory airflow and temperature control systems, campus automated HVAC building controls, control systems servers, miscellaneous computer and electronic systems.

Other Work/Responsibilities

This position has been designated as Essential Personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.

Minimum Experience/Education

Associate’s Degree in Electronics; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Departmental Required Skills

Experience in electronic and electro-pneumatic HVAC control systems maintenance or process control system maintenance, including progressive experience in the installation and troubleshooting of variable frequency drives.

Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and the general public. Must be able to understand instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.

Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Four years of progressive experience in installing, commissioning, repairing and modifying electronic/electro-pneumatic building controls and lab envelope pressurization/temperature control systems.

Required License or Certification

Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
