DELTA’s role within the Office of the Provost is to foster the integration and support of learning technologies in NC State’s academic programs, both on the campus and at a distance. We coordinate the funding and production of all distance-based credit programs and courses for the university and promote high-quality education by extending the reach of the faculty and collaboratively applying expertise in technology and pedagogy in an efficient, effective, and service-oriented environment.

Essential Job Duties

This position is part of the Applications Development team. This team designs, tests, modifies and retrofits software used by DELTA’s internal and external clients. This position will have a primary focus on Moodle development. This will include integration and customization needed for use at NC State and also possible development that will be given back to the Moodle community. A small part of the work time would be assigned to general applications development and support.

  • DELTA supports multiple open source applications for internal business use and use by all of campus. This position provides development, integration, and customization for these applications.
  • Provide technical assistance and information to other team members. Act as a resource for others working on Moodle development. Provide planning and coordination around the creation and testing of Moodle modules within the team.
  • Understanding of the concepts for software development and maintenance. Ability to work with other developers to help their code conform to the Moodle scheme.
  • Display an aptitude for programming and willingness to learn new methods and development tools.
  • Good written and oral communication skills. This position requires that the individual can translate advanced technical Moodle issues into terms that training and support personnel can understand, and translate user needs into actionable items for our programmers and the Moodle community.

  • Ability to prioritize own task list with limited involvement from supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of organization.
  • Review design ideas and provide work estimates.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
Departmental Required Skills
  • Previous experience working in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) environment.
  • Knowledge of current web design languages; including HTML/XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Previous experience working with Moodle.
  • Experience with data management in MySQL or another database.
  • Prefer 2-3 years programming experience.
Required License or Certification
