Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

This research position is for a fungal biology laboratory working on chromatin structure and function and drug development. It requires extensive laboratory work using molecular genetics, microscopy, and biochemical tools. The position involves occasional work during weekends or off-hours depending on the project and the schedule of the experiments.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Demonstrated knowledge in basic biology, math, and laboratory skills. Demonstrated ability to work with others and will be able to train others once the candidate becomes familiar with the techniques. Most importantly, the candidate needs to be passionate about science/research and shows the ability to work in a team environment. A candidate with a track record of productivity and high quality of the work.

Physical Demands

Lift, climb, squat, and kneel, stand/sit for long periods. Work with animals. Wear personal protective equipment and use enhanced biosafety techniques. Efficient in both verbal and written communication in English.

Perform microbiology and molecular biology experiments. Work with fungi in a lab investigating epigenetics and chromatin-based processes, and development of new anti-fungal therapies. Molecular biology work includes manipulation of nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids.

Percentage of time55 Duties/Responsibilities


Communicate with PI about ongoing experiments. Plan experiments and discuss results with the PI in person and by email.

Percentage of time20 Duties/Responsibilities


Prepare experimental results for publication or oral presentations. Use software such as powerpoint and Microsoft excel to make graphs or images of experimental data. Other duties as required. These include performing annual chemical inventories and performing work to comply with chemical and biohazard safety regulations.

Percentage of time5 Duties/Responsibilities


Monitor lab equipment and place supply orders using UGAmart. Order chemicals and supplies for lab members. Schedule maintenance when needed for major equipment.

Train/Supervise undergraduates. Undergrads will be trained to perform basic lab maintenance tasks, such as cleaning glassware and making routine stock solutions.
