GENERAL SUMMARY:

Gordon State College is seeking a Director of Internal Audit to support the improvement of governance, risk management, compliance, and internal controls and will increase responsiveness to the Board of Regents and leadership.

The Internal Auditor reports to the President of Gordon State College on matters impacting Gordon State College. The internal auditor is responsible for reviewing institutional budgets to ensure consistency with approved practices, institutional procedures, the policies and procedures of the Board of Regents and the State of Georgia and provides management advisory services. Additionally, the internal auditor must be able to devise solutions to complex problems and prepare and implement an audit plan within a broad framework of policies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs financial, compliance, IT and operational internal audits including planning and development of audit programs

Develops an annual audit plan using an appropriate risk-based methodology, including any risks or control concerns identified by management

Provides training to managers on internal controls, business risks, fraud and other related topics Informs the President
and institutional key leaders of audit progress; manages the audit so that time is efficiently used, deadlines and budgets are met, and departmental quality assurance standards are maintained for the GSC audit function

Develops an annual or rolling risk assessment and audit plan for GSC

Provides assistance to State Auditors and BOR Internal Auditors as needed

Applies internal auditing standards and techniques and demonstrates project management skills; has knowledge of and compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditor’s Code of Ethics Manages and/or conducts special investigations as assigned

Provides preventative analysis oriented advisory opinions as requested

Provides education, support and coordination in maintaining College policies and procedures.

Develop, deliver, and implement training (both broad-based and individualized) to the Gordon State workforce, and assist in the development of communication programs to educate and update the Gordon State community on compliance, risk and/or privacy requirements

Monitor regulatory, legislative, and policy matters that affect the College’s compliance efforts, staying current on new developments and disseminating information concerning such developments to College administrators; contribute to implementing best practices

Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for four years.

Ability to gain and apply practical knowledge of IS audit standards, guidelines and best practices

Knowledge of and compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditor’s Code of Ethics and International Professional Practices Framework

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred:
Five (5) years of relevant experience

Master’s Degree in a related field
CPA, CIA, or CISA

CCH TeamMate Audit Management System

PeopleSoft and Banner systems experience
