This position is responsible for performing skilled low-voltage and maintenance work in the campus buildings
Essential DutiesLow voltage installation and troubleshooting (40%)
• Coordinates the work of contractors
• Solicits bids for contract work.
• Coordinates contract repairs.
• Monitors contractor work to ensure compliance with standards.
• Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning electrical systems.
Replaces light bulbs, ballasts, and light fixtures
• Replaces light switches and electrical outlets.
• Conducts inspections.
• Inspects alarm systems
• Inspects elevators.
• Inspects other electrical systems.
• Maintains inspection records
Performs building maintenance duties (30%)
• Repairs doors and hardware.
• Repairs and replaces door locks.
• Performs carpentry repairs.
• Repairs roofs and gutters.
• Repairs ceiling tiles.
• Repairs floors.
• Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
• Performs glass and window repairs.
• Repairs signage.
• Welds and fabricates parts and equipment.
• Repairs fences.
• Changes HVAC filters and belts.
• Pressure washes buildings, patios, and walkways.
• Sets up and relocates furniture.
• Operates a variety of equipment and hand and power tools.
Performs a variety of related duties
(20%)
• Assists in setting- up for special events.
• Provides assistance to other department personnel as needed.
• Performs custodial maintenance as assigned.
Maintains tools and supplies (10%)
• Maintains tools and supply inventory; makes purchases as needed.
• Maintains and repairs tools and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES AND/OR COMPETENCIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
•Knowledge of electrical system installation, repair and maintenance.
• Knowledge of relevant construction codes.
• Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems.
• Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
• Skill in diagnostic troubleshooting.
• Skill in the operation of job-related tools, vehicles and equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Knowledge of facilities maintenance principles and practices.
• Knowledge of best practices and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of carpentry repair and construction principles.
• Skill in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of hand and power tools.
• Skill in decision making and problem solving.
• Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
• Skill in oral and written communication
• High school diploma or equivalent required (or willingness to obtain equivalency within the first six months of employment)
• More than two years of related experience required
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
• The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
