General Description

Delaware County Community College, a competency-based institution, committed to diversity invites applications for a Laboratory Coordinator in our STEM division.

This position is responsible for the organization, maintenance, and operation of the Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology instructional laboratories, including preparation of laboratory activities, preparation and tracking of quotation requests and purchase requisitions, maintaining an inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies, maintenance of laboratory equipment, maintaining laboratory safety and security, and providing assistance to faculty in the instructional laboratories. Responsibilities will primarily involve laboratories at the Marple campus, though flexibility with locations may be required.

Hours: Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Duties

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to: -

  • Coordinate the overall operation of the Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology laboratories.
  • Prepare instructional materials for the Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology laboratories.
  • Prepare and test laboratory equipment and activities.
  • Assist the faculty in the preparation and updating of work orders.
  • Assist the faculty in the development of instructional materials.
  • Assist the faculty in the Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology laboratories, as required.
  • Maintain, inventory, research, and order instructional materials and supplies.
  • Oversee laboratory safety and security, and maintain the SDS files.
  • Recruit, train, and directly supervise student laboratory assistants.
  • Coordinate the regular cleaning of the Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology laboratories, facilities, and equipment.
  • Maintain the laboratory equipment in good condition, and when needed, arrange for its repair.
  • Maintain the A.V. collection, microscope slide collection, and handouts.
  • Order and maintain the live and preserved plants and animals used for instruction.
  • Prepare and maintain the Microbiology cultures and culture medium.
  • Coordinate with the Science Laboratory Supervisor to safely store hazardous waste and arrange for its disposal.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with the Division Dean, Department Coordinators, Instructors, fellow Laboratory Coordinators, the Science Laboratory Supervisor, and other College personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate must have: -

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Biology or closely related discipline.
  • Prefer proficiency with Microbiology and Molecular Biology laboratory techniques.
  • Expertise in office and educational computer applications.
  • Related work experience.
Supplemental Information

Pennsylvania Act 153 Clearances
Applicants are required to either present to human resources current and valid PA Act 153 clearances or be able to obtain them expediently.
