General Summary INTO ISU is a joint venture between Illinois State University and INTO University Partnerships and is an initiative to increase the number of international students at ISU and to assist the university in meeting its internationalization goals.

The INTO ISU Pathway Advisor is a relationship with mutual responsibilities between an advisor and student advisee for consultation, sharing of accurate and complete information, careful listening, critical evaluation, and respectful interchange. The Pathway Advisor works with the all INTO ISU programs (Academic English, Undergraduate Pathway, Graduate Pathway and others as they are developed) and academic personnel within the INTO ISU Center.

The Academic Advisor is responsible for building course schedules and registering international pathway and academic English students for classes; helping students define and develop realistic education goals; assisting students in creating an academic plan consistent with their abilities, interests, and goals; assisting students in monitoring and evaluating their educational progress; referring students to appropriate campus resources; maintaining a confidential advising record for each student; designating and communicating hours available for advising; and informing students of the nature of the advisor/student advisee relationship. This position may also include data gathering, analysis, and reporting. A key component of this position will be coordinating advising and professional development/training activities with ISU's University College and all departments on campus.

This is a new position in the growing and dynamic INTO Illinois State University (INTO ISU) Center. Duties and scope may change as the INTO ISU center and this role evolves from the start-up phase to continuous operations.

We expect the candidate to help build the organization with a focus on achieving operational excellence.

Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree
2. A minimum 1 year of professional advising experience or demonstrated equivalent in directly related field.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, communication and teamwork.
6. Ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines.
7. Organizational skills.
8. Flexibility in a changing administrative model.
9. Ability to work with diverse populations of students, peers, and public.
10. Working knowledge of basic office software (word processing, e-mail systems, spreadsheets, mainframes, databases, etc.)
11. Ability to work independently, but also work cooperatively with a variety of offices and departments across campus.
12. Evidence of a professional demeanor that contributes to a positive and fulfilling work environment.
14. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
