Position Summary

This research position is situated with the Middlebury Institute of International Studies Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism (CTEC). The part-time temporary researcher will conduct open-source investigative work on the activities of the far-right. This is a part-time, temporary staff position.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

*At the direction of the CTEC Director and Deputy Director the researcher will carry out research functions exploring far-right wing extremism.
*Will review written products to ensure analysis conforms with research.
*Will review citations and fact-check CTEC publications.

General Responsibilities

*Will review open source literature, to include academic journals, newspaper articles, and relevant books pertaining to the far-right. This research will further activities associated with various CTEC lines of inquiry.

Qualifications

Education

Must have a Master’s Degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must have intermediate to advanced research method skills.
  • Must have strong knowledge of far-right wing extremism to include Identitarians, New-Nazis, skinheads and sovereign citizen movements.
    *Must have command of far-right wing propaganda methods.
    *Must have a strong understanding of the nomenclature associated with the far-right.
Experience

Six months of research experience on far-right wing terrorism.

Physical Demands

The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey maintains a smoke-free workplace and complies with the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act and Drug-Free Workplace Act.

Position requires light to moderate physical effort and the ability to work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
