Position Summary

The University Relations Associate recruits students for and markets the Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools Abroad, Middlebury Language Schools, as well as the Middlebury School of the Environment whenever possible; maintains and cultivates relationships with staff and faculty from sending and partner institutions; represents Middlebury College, the Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools Abroad and Language Schools at various conferences and international opportunity events.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

Earliest anticipated start date is October 1, 2019.

• Working with the Assistant Director of University Relations, plans and executes approximately 55 visits to colleges and universities, which may include study abroad fairs, meetings with students, staff, and faculty, information sessions, classroom presentations, and pre-departure sessions, to recruit students for the Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools Abroad, the Language Schools, and graduate programs.
• Promotes the Schools Abroad and Language Schools at international education and language conferences.
• Coordinates outreach to faculty influencers, inquiries, applicants, and returnees at all institutions in advance of fall visits.
• Maintains tracking system for inquiries, applicants, and enrolled students.
• Responds to student inquiries and provides answers to questions before they apply to a Middlebury program.
• Composes detailed site reports on each school visited.
• Promotes Schools Abroad and Language Schools at international education and language conferences.
• Assists in developing ideas for creative recruiting and marketing of the Schools Abroad and Language Schools.
• Assists with publications and marketing material, including social media.
• Reviews evaluations and communicates with returnees to gather material for publications.
• Builds and maintains an alumni network for returnees.
• Assists with regular newsletter to sending schools.
• Coordinates and executes Schools Abroad mailings to college/university faculty and administrators, as well as to summer Language Schools faculty.
• Coordinates individual site visits upon request as well as group site visits from sending school administrators and faculty
• Coordinates on-campus summer meeting for education abroad colleagues from sending institutions to coincide with Schools Abroad directors summer meetings.
• Conducts market research and competitor cost comparisons as assigned.
• Participates – when possible – in Language Schools and IPOCS special projects, and Language Schools and IPOCS staff meetings.
• Develop expertise about Middlebury’s programs through regular interaction with staff abroad and returnees, including a yearly site visit.

General Responsibilities

• Approximately 50% of the fall semester and 30% of spring semester is spent traveling.
• Overnight and weekend travel required.

Qualifications

Education

• B.A. degree required; M.A. degree preferred, preferably in the field of international education, higher education administration, or similar.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Qualifications/Skills
• Prior living/studying abroad experience.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
• Strong public speaking, written communication, and networking skills.
• Language skills in French, German, Italian, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, and/or Spanish.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for study abroad and language learning.
• Computer literacy; experience with MS Office Suite (including PowerPoint and Excel), and web content management software.
• Ability to work in an autonomous environment with various stakeholders required.
• Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, faculty and staff in both one-on-one as well as group presentation settings.
• Detail-oriented approach to managing administrative tasks; proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent project management, time management and organizational skills; as well as initiative, resourcefulness, and attention to detail.

Experience

1-3 years of post-graduate experience in international education preferred.
