Job Description:


The Assistant Vice President for Budget and Finance reports to the Executive Vice President for Administration, with job responsibilities in the following areas:


Managing day-to-day operations and essential financial management functions including annual budget formulation and budget execution, recommendations for tuition and fee structure, five-year budget planning, developing and monitoring budget-to-actual reports, ensure accurate revenue estimates as part of the financial plan, and oversight of accounting procedures and practices.


The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in a wide variety of financial management policies, procedures, and work with a considerable amount of independent discretion and is responsible for interpreting and applying a wide variety of guidelines affecting budget and finance.


Key duties include:


  • Manage day-to-day operations; resolving complex issues across all financial disciplines
  • Manage and develop new processes and systems, where necessary, to create a more efficient and effective department and institution
  • Provide consultation and analysis to the Executive Vice President for Administration on a wide range of fiscal and operational issues including confidential issues and to make various policy and operational recommendations
  • Develops and maintains strong collegial relationships throughout the college to ensure resource requirements are identified and move the strategic plan objectives forward
  • Track progress in the strategic financial plan objectives and strategies
  • Develop a resource advisor program and system that assists Vice Presidents and department leadership in budget preparation and monitoring
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates fiscal operations and financial accounting functions
  • Develops procedures for recording revenue and expenditures
  • Provides representation on college governance committees as appropriate
  • Manages the development of mandatory and elective fee rates
  • Develops a comprehensive budget calendar and timeline to ensure proactive management of budget process
  • Perpetually reviews, evaluates, and documents budgetary and internal controls
  • Evaluates and manages risk related to reliable financial reporting
  • Oversee the mentoring, training, and development of staff members
  • Perform various research projects at the request of senior management




Requirements:


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration or other related field
  • Five (5) years or more experience in financial management
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing quality services in accordance with the stated mission, values, goals, objectives, and priorities of the college
  • Leadership ability, including successful management of high performance teams with a focus on quality customer service
  • Ability to provide financial information and analysis that is clear and concise
  • Excellent critical thinking, judgment and decision-making ability, including the ability to weigh short and long-term costs and benefits of a potential action
  • Superior attention to detail, accuracy, timeliness, and meeting deadlines


Preferred Qualifications:


  • A Master's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related area
  • Experience in developing multi-year budgets
  • Experience in higher education system

This position is located in Saratoga Springs, NY. Some travel is required. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.



Rank/Salary: Commensurate with experience.
