The Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Intern reports to the Head Track & Field Coach and may have a second report relative to an assigned secondary duty. The primary tasks are to assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the program including: plan workouts and coach SA’s in specific events; assist in the management of home indoor/outdoor meets; and recruit qualified student-athletes in concert with the academic mission of the University. In addition, a secondary responsibility will be assigned that could include: game management, intramurals and club sports, facilities management, or strength & conditioning. The position appointment is for one year, renewable up to a total of three years.
•Assist the Head Coach in identifying and recruiting academically qualified student-athletes in both the off-campus and on-campus recruiting efforts
•Assist the Head Coach in developing and conducting organized practices
•Assist the Head Coach with meet management responsibilities
•Assist the Head Coach with fundraising opportunities
•Assist the Head Coach in counseling student-athletes in a positive manner and serving as a positive role model to all SU students on a daily basis
•Adhere to all NCAA, conference and University rules and regulations
•Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as the entire SU community
•Represent the university to various constituents in a professional manner
•Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach
•Perform secondary duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Evidence of positive attitude and the ability to get along well with others required. A valid driver’s license is required. Desire to pursue coaching is expected.
Bachelor’s Degree required as well as a valid driver’s license is required.
Must have the energy and enthusiasm and mobility to actively coach the sport. Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires frequent lifting, stooping, crouching and bending. Working conditions are indoor and outdoor.
Collegiate participation in cross country and track & field is desired.
