Position SummaryTeaching: the Assistant Professor will teach one course each semester in archaeology and supervise the graduate student assigned as the Collections Research Assistant.

Research: the Assistant Professor will conduct research as appropriate to manage the archaeological collections and assist the MSU NAGPRA compliance officer. This will include working with artifacts, archival material, photographs, and other records as necessary to carry out assigned management activities in the Department of Anthropology’s Archaeology Consortium.

Outreach/Public Service: the Assistant Professor will facilitate public outreach efforts on behalf of the Department of Anthropology that center on access to facilities and collections and/or the sharing of knowledge about the prehistory of Michigan. This individual will also manage the McDonel facilities associated with the Archaeology Program.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Anthropology

Minimum RequirementsPhD in Anthropology (dissertation in archaeology) by August 16, 2019

Expertise working with site records, collections, prehistoric and historic artifacts

Knowledge of Michigan prehistory and history

Teaching experience in archaeology

Desired QualificationsExperience with NAGPRA processes

Experience with MSU’s Archaeology Program and its collections
