The Editorial Specialist is a member of the Office of Communications and Marketing and is responsible for writing about the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) and its units. This person will bring a news and public relations perspective to the office. He or she will work closely with team members and unit partners to produce high-impact stories about faculty, students, alumni, and donors that strengthen the reputation of the college and its many units. This person will conduct all work with college goals in mind, and work within the college brand and messaging framework.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write news and feature stories for the college’s communications channels including its print magazine, e-newsletters, blog, social media, and websites.
- Write copy for the college’s collateral materials including brochures, reports, video scripts, email messages, and invitations.
- Write, edit, and curate copy for college e-newsletters and assist with planning and production.
- Identify stories, write news releases, and assist with pitching to the media.
- Monitor external news stories about the college and its units.
- Serve as social media back up by writing social posts and posting to social channels.
- Contribute to and work within project management systems used by the office.
- Perform other duties as needed to further the goals of the college.
Required: A bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, journalism, public relations, communication, English, creative writing, or a related field. One year of professional experience working in the advertising, promotions, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field. Experience with standard word processing software. Professional experience using social media.
Preferred: A successful track record in pitching stories to the media and responding to media requests. Experience writing about complex topics.
Successful candidates will have the ability to work under tight deadlines while balancing multiple projects. Ability to maintain high standards of integrity and accuracy while presenting information in an engaging and informative way. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to think creatively and collaboratively.
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time 12- month Marketing Associate position. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
