The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Basketball Coach in creating and maintaining a successful program for the institution on the court, in the classroom and in the community.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Teaching of skills required for both team and individual player development in coordination with the Head Coach.
  • Assists in monitoring academic, social and personal development of Basketball student-athletes.
  • Oversee study hall
  • Assists in identifying and recruiting academically and athletically talented student-athletes.
  • Assists in/with scheduling of Referees; acquiring game balls; preparation of court; on court coaching; court clean up and lock down; enters statistics.
  • Assists with maintenance of Basketball court.
  • Assists in promoting Middle Georgia State University and the Basketball program to the community and all forms of media.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships and communications with students, colleagues, staff, alumni and parents to insure the success and growth of the program.
  • Assists in maintaining and inventorying equipment.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of college-level athletic program management principles.
  • Knowledge of basketball rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of sport court maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the coaching and training of student athletes.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Head Women’s Basketball Coach assigns work in terms of program goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports and observation of program activities.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include NAIA , NCAA and Affiliated Conference rules and regulations and College policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and in athletics facilities.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: '

  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experienced as a player or coach at the collegiate or professional level preferred.
  • Knowledge of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCCA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) rules and regulations.
