The University of Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies (JSLS) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor with a specialization in history, classics, or a related field for the 2020-21 academic year. Although ABDs will be considered, the successful candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in history or a related field by August 19, 2020.

JSLS is a collaborative, inclusive community of scholars in anthropology, economics, history, literature, philosophy, politics, social psychology and religion. We seek applicants with the potential and desire to develop, from their disciplinary training, an active scholarly agenda that uses historical inquiry to illuminate or explore leadership processes, such as (but not limited to) the use of power, the role of human agency in shaping contingent events, and processes of social and historical change.

Applicants should have the ability to teach and conduct research in an interdisciplinary liberal arts environment. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses that draw upon his or her broad training in history. We welcome applications from all historians, with a particular interest in candidates whose research will broaden students’ understanding of leadership. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to, historical investigations of imperialism; Latin American, African, or Asian history; and gender studies. (See for more information.)
