Benefits Eligible Yes Eligible for Overtime No Position SummaryThe Program Administrator in the Dean of Humanities Office provides complex and diversified administrative and academic support to the directors of multiple interdisciplinary academic programs such as the African and African American Studies, Medical Humanities, Environmental Studies and Politics, Law and Social Thought. S/he is the first point of contact for program visitors and ensures a welcoming and professional experience to faculty and students. The Program Administrator anticipates needs, proactively solves problems and independently handles issues as they arise. S/he also manages program events and outreach to off campus partners.
Education Required Bachelor's Degree Major/Discipline Substitution for Education RequirementExperience may not be substituted for the education requirement.
Education PreferredConcentration in humanities, social sciences, business, public relations, or related fields.
Experience Required 3 years Type of ExperienceProfessional experience providing support to a mid-level manager that includes customer relations, budget planning and management, problem solving, balancing multiple priorities, and event planning and execution.
Substitution for Experience RequirementEducation may not be substituted for the experience requirement.
Experience Preferred- Experience in a departmental or other academic position in a university or college setting, preferably in the humanities or social sciences

Contact with faculty, staff and students of the School of Humanities; administration and staff across the Rice campus; other universities’ personnel; area museums, alumni, and the general public

Sample #1. As the first point of contact for four unique programs, you are the liaison between students and the program directors. Please submit the text of an e-mail in response to a student’s request to waive a course requirement in the Medical Humanities minor. The program director is Dr. Kirsten Ostherr.
Sample #2. You will periodically send announcements to the faculty who teach in the four programs. Please submit the text of an e-mail addressed to the faculty who teach in the African and African-American Studies (AAAS) program announcing a special event: The Rice University Department of History is hosting a lecture by Dr. Jennifer L. Morgan entitled Law, Race, and Reproduction in Colonial Slavery on October 31 at 4 p.m.
