Job Title First-Year Residential Life Coordinator Department Student Act/First Yr Prog Position Summary

Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced professional for a full time position as a Residential Life Coordinator (RLC). Gettysburg College is a residential undergraduate liberal arts college, which enrolls approximately 2,600 students. The Office of Residential & First-Year Programs (RFYP) has developed a setting where innovation and creativity are key components to the implementation of a strategic and developmentally sequenced educational program that focuses on citizenship, integrity, inclusiveness, and emotional intelligence.

Qualifications

The responsibility of the Residential Life Coordinator is to work collaboratively within Residential & First-Year Programs on the development and implementation of a comprehensive residential life program that promotes students’ personal and intellectual growth. The student residential experience at Gettysburg is shaped by class specific learning plans. The RLC will be responsible for the implementation and ongoing revision of the First-Year Learning Plan and training our student staff to implement the educational strategies. The learning plan drives decisions that influence all activities ranging from individual conversations with residents to community meetings and connections to campus resources. The RLC implements this work in collaboration with both academic affairs and student affairs colleagues across the institution.
The Residential Life Coordinator supervises a residential student staff of up to 18 members. The student staff experience is designed to achieve the learning goals presented in the Student Staff Learning Plan. Residential student staff members also serve as New Student Orientation Leaders, and work collaboratively with the planning and implementation of Orientation and the extended Orientation program. The RLC is deeply involved in student staff selection, training, and evaluation.
In keeping with its strategic focus, Gettysburg College is interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to participating in building an inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community. Successful candidates will have experience working with campus partners to integrate their position’s primary responsibilities with creating a campus environment in which underrepresented students will thrive. This includes an interest and a desire to work with students through a variety of initiatives, including, but not limited to, student advising, supporting student clubs/organizations, and program planning.
Collaboration and teamwork is an expectation of the College Life Division staff. A successful candidate for the Residential Life Coordinator will be expected to work cross-departmentally with colleagues in support of the overall student experience and should expect to contribute to work groups, committees, and projects outside of the core responsibilities of this position. Gettysburg believes cross departmental involvement creates stronger teamwork, a better student experience, and professional development opportunities for staff.
Other responsibilities include serving as a student conduct hearing officer, assisting in the coordination of housing processes, collaborating with Facilities and the Department of Public Safety, and handling emergencies that arise including serving on the campus’s on-call rotation. The Residential Life Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Director of Residential & First-Year Programs.
A Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate qualities that would contribute to a setting where innovation, initiative, and creativity help foster vibrant and engaged residential communities. Applicants must be student centered and demonstrate a commitment to their own personal and professional growth. Candidates are also expected to engage in assessment as a tool to measure the effectiveness of the department’s educational program.

Special Instructions Summary

The Residential Life Coordinator is a full time, 12-month position and is provided with on-campus housing. Salary is competitive and is complemented by an excellent benefits package.

Application materials must be received by June 25, 2019.
