Information Risk Program Coordinator

DepartmentUnder the general direction of the Information Security Architect, the Information Risk Program Coordinator is a key lead in identifying and escalating information risks. The Information Risk Program Coordinator has frequent interaction with all levels of the university community, including stakeholders in Academic divisions and departments; and Central departments such as Human Resources, Research Services, Enrolment Services, Financial Services. As an information risk subject matter expert, the position provides guidance to stakeholders to help them assess and understand potential information risks in their business, academic and/or IT areas. In addition, the Information Risk Program Coordinator analyzes complex projects or business practices to directly identify potential privacy and security risks through Threat/Risk Assessments (TRA), Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) and Business Impact Assessments (BIA).

The Information Risk Program Coordinator acts as a project manager for complex projects that fall within areas related to Information Risk, such as information risk self-assessment programs. This includes advocating a particular program to stakeholders such as academic and administrative department leaders, creating workshops and training material for users to help them capture meaningful data; and providing reviews of the captured data. The Information Risk Program Coordinator will research, recommend, and manage software and tools to support such programs.

CampusMinimum Qualifications

Education
  • University degree in a relevant field, (e.g., Business, Computer Science, Engineering), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience
  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience in a Higher Education environment including the management of data throughout its lifecycle.
  • Five (5) years significant exposure to Information Risk Assessments / Information Security practices.
Skills
  • Excellent communication, instruction and presentation skills.
  • Able to describe a variety of complex technical concepts or policies to users and senior leadership at all technical experience levels, in general communication formats and in workshops.
  • Ability to master new technology quickly.
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
Other
  • Ability to work effectively with external vendors and all levels of academic, administrative and IT staff.
  • Excellent team player with a proven track record of working across a large, distributed enterprise.
  • Strong understanding of information security concepts and security methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of information risk.
  • Understanding of how to objectively evaluate the use of security controls, mechanisms and goals in comparison to best practices.
