DESCRIPTION

The Institute of Arts and Humanities (IAH) supports interdisciplinary research, teaching and public dialogue in the Arts and Humanities. IAH houses 14 academic programs and one center. IAH encourages conversations about the arts and humanities across borders of time, place, culture and discipline.

It is committed to social equity, diversity and inclusion; global arts and humanities; public arts and humanities; and digital arts and humanities. Programs include: African American Studies; Chicanx and Latinx Studies; Chinese Studies; Classical Studies; European Studies; German Studies; Italian Studies; Japanese Studies; Jewish Studies; Middle East Studies; Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies; Science Studies; Third World Studies; and Transnational Korean Studies.

Plan, organize and implement all public events for the Institute of Arts and Humanities (IAH) and its programs and center, and a limited number of internal events. Most events (40-60 per year of various sizes) take place on-campus, and a few off-campus. Responsible for organizing travel, venues and catering; creating flyers and promoting events; developing and monitoring event budgets; and managing payments. Manage reimbursements for all programs in IAH. Strategically manage the IAH website to ensure accuracy and fresh information.

Occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours required to meet the needs of special events. Vacation during the academic year will be limited and may not be approved depending on event schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and production and public relations.

  • Proven knowledge in drafting event budgets, with skill in monitoring expenditures for each event. Experience processing reimbursements and/or making payments.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of web development and demonstrated ability to edit and maintain websites.

  • Proficiency using word processing, spreadsheet, presentation applications, and calendaring. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, etc.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail.

  • A Bachelor's' Degree in related area; and/or equivalent work experience/training.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and take into consideration deadlines, competing requirements and complexity.

  • Multicultural competencies and commitment to campus equity, diversity and inclusion goals. Experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, students and the general public.

  • Good judgment and effective decision-making and problem resolution skills. Skill to recognize and deal effectively and appropriately with real and potential problem areas. Skill to determine the issues/problems that need to be brought to the attention of higher level staff and/or management.
