The Consultant provides general consulting services to existing business owners as well as to start ups on strategies, business plans and cash flow projections. The incumbent investigates, prepares and presents research to clients on relevant topics. The Consultant will also organize and conducts training events on various topics as well as work with small business owners to assist with raising capital and implementing strategies for growth.

Accountabilities:
  1. Consulting
    • Consults with small business owners to assist with raising capital and implementing strategies for growth
    • Consults with individuals wanting to start or expand companies; determines needs of clients
    • Provides current, up to date information on starting a business
    • Assists clients in preparing a business plan, a strategic plan and/or cash flow projections
    • Refers clients to appropriate entity as needed
    • Meets all metric requirements as determined by the Center Director
  2. Research
    • Conducts research through the Small Business Develpment Center, University, federal, state and local sources to provide information on industries, competitors and marketing information for clients
    • Prepares reports relating to government contracting trends and changes
    • Makes recommendations to clients based on research
    • Researches and prepares reports for clients as determined by needs analysis
  3. Training
    • Coordinates and presents training events, seminars and workshops for clients at locations within the Lehigh University Small Business Develpment Center territory
    • Coordinates and presents specialty seminars as requested
    • Meets all metric requirements as determined by the Center Director
  4. Administrative
    • Enters all client information in Small Business Develpment Center database as per the Center requirements
    • Prepares reports for the Center Director as requested
    • Attends client companies "grand openings" as available
    • Prepares information for Semi Annual and Annual Reports; submits report to the Center Director on timely basis
    • Attends professional development training events as appropriate
  5. Marketing and communication
    • Prepares seminar, workshop and training event flyers ensuring all Small Business Develpment Center guidelines and logo requirements are met
    • Discusses with the Center Director appropriate marketing venues
    • Conducts outreach events and/or speaks at local organizations as requested
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Three to five years related work experience
  3. Experience is desired in small business consulting
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Solid writing ability and organizational skills
  6. Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  7. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  8. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification

  • This position is funded by soft dollars; there is no severance associated with this position
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours
