The School of Health Sciences invites applications for a new nine-month, fixed term assistant professor position for the Health Sciences Program, which includes the undergraduate Integrated Health Sciences and the Master of Health Sciences, beginning August 2019. Responsibilities of the position include: teach courses in the Integrated Health Sciences and Master of Health Sciences; supervise capstone experiences; advise students in collaboration with the Advising Center; and provide service to the university, profession, and community. Salary and rank are commensurate with academic qualifications and experience. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The School of Health Sciences began a new collaborative program in August 2018 to prepare students for a complex and evolving healthcare environment. The Integrated Health Sciences (IHS) Program is a 120-credit hour, residential, program designed for students who have a broad-based interest in the health field. This innovative and flexible program of study is intended to equally serve entry-level and transfer students. The IHS degree may also be an attractive option for students with associate degrees wanting to earn a 4-year bachelor’s degree. The IHS Program’s core courses focus on the Institute of Medicine’s core competencies: patient centered care, interdisciplinary teams, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and utilization of informatics. The IHS major has three concentrations – Pre-Professional, Management, and Health & Wellness – with the option to add additional concentrations in an evolving healthcare environment. The program is interdisciplinary, incorporating faculty expertise with courses from the College of Education and Allied Professions, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Business, and the College of Health & Human Sciences. More information about the program can be found on the website: ihs.wcu.edu The Master of Health Sciences program, designed for the working professional, is a 100% online graduate degree program that prepares future health organization managers and educators. There are three active concentrations currently; Health Education, Health Management, and Emergency Medical Science. This program is designed to prepare students to either move up their current organizational ranks or enter the health care industry. Approximately, 80% of the students enrolled are part-time working professionals who have families. The online environment is a cost effective graduate program designed to prepare students as educators or administrators in health care settings such as emergency medical systems, hospitals, public health departments, surgical or specialty practice centers, physician practices, and many other allied health areas. The School of Health Sciences offers undergraduate programs in Athletic Training, Emergency Medical Care, Environmental Health, Integrated Health Sciences, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Recreational Therapy. The Master of Health Sciences graduate program offers concentrations in Emergency Medical Care, Health Education, and Health Management. Additional programs within the College of Health and Human Sciences include Communication Sciences and Disorders, Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Social Work. A collaborative environment conducive to interdisciplinary teaching, scholarship and service exists within the School and College of Health and Human Sciences.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

•Support the vision and mission of Integrated Health Sciences and Master of Health Sciences, along with the School, College, and University.
•Develop and deliver courses within the health sciences, such as Systems and Trends in Healthcare Delivery, Quality Management in Healthcare Agencies, and Financial Management in Healthcare.
•Supervise capstone experiences.
•Mentor and advise students in collaboration with the Advising Center with regard to academic progress and professional development.
•Provide service to the university, profession, and community.
•Maintain currency in the academic discipline through continuing education, scholarship, and/or participation in activities within the profession, including involvement within professional organizations at the state, district and national levels.
•Work cooperatively and collegially with all faculty and staff involved with Integrated Health Sciences, Master of Health Sciences, School of Health Sciences, and across the institution.
•Carry out other assignments and duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Health Sciences and Dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications

oMaster’s degree in public health, health administration, health information, healthcare management, health services, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
oPractice-based experience in public health, health administration, health information, healthcare management, health services, or closely related field
oPrior teaching experience in the discipline
oDemonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
oCurrent state license, if applicable

Preferred Qualifications

oDoctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution
oExperience in a collaborative, multi-discipline academic program
oEvidence of service to the profession and/or community
oEvidence of scholarly activity and research agenda
oAdministrative experience in a health care organization
oCredentialing or certifications in health specific areas
oIn addition to a Doctoral degree, degrees in MBA, MPH, or other health fields are favorable
