This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The position of Coordinator of Residential Education for Student Conduct and Safety is responsible for managing the day to day administrative work associated with the residence hall disciplinary process, prioritizing the safety and security of the residence halls, and overseeing the front desk staff hiring, training, and evaluation processes.

The position supervises one to two full time Administrative Coordinators for Judicial Procedures in performing their job duties as they assist the Residential Education staff in the preparation of all judicial correspondence, scheduling, case documentation, file maintenance, and database management. They also work as a University Judicial Officer.

The position assists in the oversight of the residential community front desks which serve as security check points and customer service stations in the residential communities. The position will work in partnership with the Residence Hall Coordinators and manage the centralized hiring, training, and evaluation processes for all Desk Assistants and Security Monitors within the department.

The position will also create and maintain initiatives to enhance residence hall security and assess front desk staff performance. The position will work in partnership with University Police, the Residence Hall Coordinators, and Residence Hall Student Leaders to provide and track safety and security programs in the residential communities. They will also oversee the Residential Housing Officer program and coordinate on-going trainings for student leaders regarding topics related to safety and security.

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,195 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,195 - $7,411 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.

Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.

A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job¿related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job¿related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Diversity training; ability to interact with diverse populations.
  • At least one year of experience in managing residence hall front desk operations.
  • At least one year of experience working with Maxient incident reporting software.
  • At least one year of freshman transition and identity development teaching experience.
  • Previous small and large-scale program development and implementation.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or a related field.
  • Four to five years of progressively responsible experience in residential education environment.
  • At least one year of previous management and supervision of graduate or full-time, professional residence hall staff
