Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for University Librarian. This is a twelve-month position with faculty rank and opportunity for tenure status. The University Librarian provides strategic vision and leadership for department faculty and staff. This position develops library initiatives that enhance student learning in curricular and co-curricular programs. Responsibilities include personnel selection and supervision, assessment of activities and library resources, and management of the Library’s budget; may require some night and weekend hours. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience; competitive benefits program.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program and a second Master’s or a Bachelor’s degree in a subject area taught at Savannah State University is required. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible leadership and supervisory experience in an academic library. College teaching experience with a record of scholarship that would merit appointment to a senior faculty rank. Experience in fundraising and grant writing; participation in state, regional and national library and information science organizations. Experience in developing and overseeing online teaching and learning programs and activities including online tutorials, guides, and open educational resources. Demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies and other trends in higher education that impact libraries. Demonstrated competencies in information literacy and library instruction including assessment of library instruction and other library services and activities. Knowledge of and experience with budget management. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills resulting in exceptional service and collaboration with colleagues and academic departments to advance learning Background check may be required.
